East Ridge softball: Anderson leads Raptors to shutout win over Roseville
The East Ridge softball team took a step forward, before taking two steps back last week.
Behind a gem by starting pitcher Michaela Anderson, East Ridge defeated Roseville 4-0 last Monday, but followed up with a 4-0 loss to Stillwater on Wednesday and a 2-1 defeat at the hands of White Bear Lake on Thursday.
The 1-2 week put East Ridge at 8-9 overall and 7-9 in the Suburban East Conference, good for fifth place out of 10 teams.
In Monday's win over Roseville, Anderson - a sophomore - threw a complete game, allowing four hits and no runs while striking out 11 to lead the Raptors to the win. At the plate, East Ridge eighth grader Anna Roth was 2-for-3 with a run scored and freshman Olivia Huffman was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base. Against the Raiders (7-11; 6-11 SEC) East Ridge scored two runs in the second inning and two runs in the third inning - which was more than enough for Anderson, who earned her fourth win of the year.
However, the East Ridge bats went silent in its next two games - scoring only one run in a pair of losses to Stillwater (11-7; 10-7 SEC) and to White Bear Lake (11-5; 11-5 SEC).
East Ridge looked to bounce back this week in its final games before playoffs. The Raptors took on rival Woodbury on Monday, after the Bulletin went to press. Next, East Ridge plays non-conference foe Irondale on Thursday, before wrapping up the regular season at White Bear Lake on Friday.
