East Ridge girls track & field: Raptors win three events at SEC Relays
The East Ridge girls track and field team took fourth place in the annual Suburban East Conference Relay meet last Tuesday at Roseville High School.
In the meet, which is run with all relays or by adding the top four athletes’ finishes together, East Ridge got first-place finishes in the 300-meter hurdle relay, the 800-meter relay and the long jump to help total 119.5 points for fourth place. Mounds View won the meet with 145 points. Forest Lake (132) and White Bear Lake (130) were second and third, respectively.
“We had a number of high places in a lot of different events at this meet,” East Ridge co-head coach Lloyd Ness said. “I am very pleased to see the girls working hard at practices and meets. They are a very dedicated group of athletes.”
East Ridge’s 300-meter hurdle relay team was led by senior Sandra Gramer, who finished first in the event with a time of 47.82 seconds. The Raptors’ Karina Joiner took third in the race (49.12), Hannah Nesheim was fourth (49.89) and Martina Lagman was 26th (56.48).
Gramer was also part of the Raptors’ first-place 800 meter relay team. The foursome of Gramer, Emily Betz, Bailey Ness and Brenley Goertzen ran to a time of 9 minutes, 40.01 seconds, beating second-place Forest Lake (9:42.49). Brianna Schmitt led East Ridge’s long jump relay with a leap of 16 feet, 5.50 inches to take second place overall. Also, Allyson Weiss took fifth place (15-09), Reme Abulu took 10th place (15-05) and Jaden
Vogelgesang earned 19th (14-06).
Individually, Weiss also had the top finish in the triple jump, leaping a distance of 35 feet, 5 inches and Joiner finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.04.
