East Ridge girls swimming & diving: Raptors dominate Forest Lake
Fresh off a loss to Mounds View, the East Ridge girls swimming and diving team flexed its muscles in a lopsided 107-74 win over Forest Lake on Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Woodbury Middle School pool.
East Ridge won all but two events, took first, second and third in three events and mathematically clinched the Suburban East Conference meet with two events remaining.
East Ridge dominated the 200-yard freestyle, the 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly in the meet, sweeping the top three places to outscore the Rangers 13-3 in each event.
East Ridge’s Kayla Maata won the 200 free with a time of 2 minutes, 7.88 seconds. Sophie Rabino took second (2:08.17) and Sydney Watanabe was third (2:11.76). Maata also touched the wall first in the 500 free with a time of 5:37.47. Taylor Blatchford took second (5:44.86) and Anna Anderson placed third (6:07.95). Taylor Johnson won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.99. She was followed by Emily Dahl (1:04.79) and Haley Dahl (1:05.72).
In other swimming events, Meredith Ubel dominated the 200-yard individual medley, winning the event with a time of 2:17.43. The Raptors’ Sydney Schmitz placed second (2:30.23). Ubel also won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:06.38. Johnson was second (1:07.25). East Ridge’s Lindsey Lewis won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.58.
Forest Lake won the 50-yard free with a time of 27.05, but Lewis was second in the event with a time of 27.26. The Rangers also edged East Ridge in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.81. East Ridge’s best finish was turned in by Caitlin Pace with a time of 1:16.89 for second place.
East Ridge won every relay race ahead of Forest Lake.
The Raptors’ 200-yard medley relay of Haley Dahl, Blatchford, Ubel and Schmitz won the event in a time of 1:59.65. East Ridge took first and second in the 200-yard freestyle relay to take a 12-2 advantage in the event. The team of Peters, Johnson, Lewis and Schmitt won the event in a time of 1:47.14. The Raptors’ “B” team of Schmitz, Blatchford, Rabino and Dahl took second (1:49.41). East Ridge also went 1-2 in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Johnson, Ubel, Lewis and Peters touched the wall first in a time of 3:55.19, followed by the team of Steph McKeen, Anderson, Brianna Schmitt and Kayla Maata (4:04.08).
In the diving competition, East Ridge’s Olivia Burleigh took the top spot with a score of 185.65. The Raptors’ Cassie Kahrer was third (143.30) as the Raptors won the event 9-7.
The win improved the Raptors to 4-2 on the year.
East Ridge welcomes SEC foe Hastings to Woodbury Middle School on Thursday, Oct. 3. The meet is set 6:30 p.m.
