East Ridge girls lacrosse: First-year Raptors 4-6 on the year

The East Ridge girls lacrosse team is off to a fine start in year No. 1.

The first-year Raptors are 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the Suburban East Conference.

Most recently, the Raptors defeated Hastings 14-2, then lost three games to conference powers Mounds View, Park and Roseville.

"Playing great teams is the only way to get better," East Ridge head coach Amy Fortney said. "We have to make the right choices, support each other and learn from our mistakes. We have to stay consistent and come out fighting."

In the win over Hastings (0-8; 0-6 SEC), East Ridge sophomore Jenna Griffith led the way with six goals. Also, sophomore Jess Hammer grabbed six groundballs and won four draws, while freshman goalie Cara Kaufer made eight saves. In the 16-5 loss to Mounds View (6-3; 5-1 SEC), Hammer gathered eight ground balls and controlled four draws to lead the way. Against Park (6-3; 4-2 SEC), in a 12-7 loss, sophomore Ella Frazer scored one goal and had gathered five ground balls, while eighth grader Megan Yoshida grabbed six ground balls and came up with four draw controls.

East Ridge took on Stillwater (7-2; 5-1 SEC) on Monday, after the Bulletin went to print. Next, the Raptors travel to White Bear Lake to take on the Bears (2-5; 1-5 SEC) on Wednesday, before finishing the regular season with a home game against Woodbury (1-6; 1-5 SEC) on Monday, May 14.
