It was a big week for Jamie Swanson and the East Ridge girls basketball program.

Swanson’s milestone point came on a free throw in front of a number of East Ridge fans who made the trip to Apple Valley for the occasion. Swanson is the first 1,000 point scorer in the East Ridge girls basketball team’s history.

“It was a great moment for her, our program, and our school,” East Ridge head coach Glen Wurm said.

Nearly as big was the Raptors’ six-point win over section foe Apple Valley (0-5), which improved East Ridge’s record to 3-0 on the year. In the game, East Ridge held a 28-26 halftime lead and hung on in the second half for the win, outscoring the Eagles 34-30 after the break.

“I like our competitiveness right now,” Wurm said. “We need to continue sustaining our effort and cash in on the scoring opportunities we get.”

In addition to Swanson’s 26 points, freshman guard Emma Stoehr scored 12 points. Six others added to the scoring as well, led by junior Amanda Robinson, senior McKenna Karas and freshman Mariah Sexe, who each scored six points.

Next, East Ridge travels to a Forest Lake (1-2) Friday.

“These are two good opponents who will be good tests for us,” Wurm said.
