East Ridge boys swimming & diving: Raptors beat Mounds View, earn 18th straight win
The East Ridge High School boys swimming and diving team earned its second Suburban East Conference win of the season and their 18th consecutive dual meet victory on Dec. 19, when the Raptors beat the Mounds View Mustangs 100-80.
East Ridge opened their season on Dec. 5 with the Suburban East Conference relay meet. The score was not kept at the meet so there was no official winner, but East Ridge won six out of the nine events, and earned three new meet records.
The boys had their first dual meet of the season on Dec. 12, when they hosted the Hastings team. East Ridge won that meet 100-84. Along with winning eight of the 12 events, East Ridge broke four pool records in this their first meet of the season. James Tidd, Sam Scholz, Kent Rabideaux and Ryan Schiferl set the 200 medley relay record, Scholz set the record in the 200 individual medley, and Tidd set the records in the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.
After opening their season with the win over Hastings, East Ridge traveled to Mounds View and continued their winning streak. East Ridge won all but two events at the meet.
Tyler Langstraat, Sam Scholz, and Tidd all won both of their individual events, the 200 and the 500 freestyles for Langstraat, the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke for Scholz, and the 50 and 100 freestyles for Tidd. Rabideaux also won the 100 butterfly, and Lafayette Doty won diving. East Ridge’s 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams both won as well. The 200 freestyle relay team was made up of Tidd, Rabideaux, David Scholz, and Schiferl; and the 400 freestyle team was made up of Tidd, Rabideaux, Sam Scholz, and Garrett Verhoeven. In addition to winning the event, the 400 freestyle relay team also set a Suburban East Conference record with their time of 3:15.85.
East Ridge traveled to White Bear Lake on Friday, Dec. 27, after the Bulletin went to press.
Next, the Raptors host fellow conference power Stillwater on Thursday, Jan. 2. The Raptors beat the Ponies last year for the first time.
