East Ridge boys swimming & diving: Mounds View win sets up showdown with Stillwater
Woodbury Minnesota 8420 City Centre Drive 55125

The East Ridge boys swimming and diving team is proving to be a force to be reckoned with.

The Raptors, last week, won easily over fellow Suburban East Conference power Mounds View, 101-83, clinching the meet with one event remaining. It was East Ridge's eighth consecutive victory - dating back to last year - and sets up a showdown against Stillwater this week, with the winner most likely earning the conference championship crown.

In the win over Mounds View, East Ridge had nine first-place finishes in the 12-event meet.

Most notable of all the wins was perhaps the Raptors' first-place 200-yard freestyle relay, which broke the East Ridge High School and pool record with a sizzling time of 1 minute, 29.67 seconds. It's believed the time is among the top two or three recorded in the state this year. The team is comprised of sophomore James Tidd, junior Sam Scholz, sophomore Kent Rabideaux and sophomore Garrett Verhoeven.

For East Ridge, Tidd had a meet to remember. The sophomore broke East Ridge High School records in the 50-yard freestyle (his split of the Raptors' first-place 200-yard free relay) and the 100-yard breaststroke, with a time of 1 minute, 2.39 seconds, to take first in that event. Tidd also earned first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.48 and helped the Raptors 200-yard medley relay earn first place with a time of 1:42.85 (along Scholz, Rabideaux and sophomore Pierce Firebaugh).

In addition to helping the two relay teams take first, Rabideaux also broke the pool record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.19 to take first and earned first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.89.

Other top finishes for East Ridge included: Scholz' first-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.49) and in the 100-yard backstroke (57.45) and a first-place finish by Lafayette Doty in the diving competition (170.95 points).

East Ridge now heads to Stillwater on Thursday, Dec. 20, with a start time of 6 p.m.
