East Ridge boys lacrosse: Raptors score a win heard around the conference
When Aime Caines and his coaching staff started the East Ridge boys lacrosse program five years ago, they had 2014 circled on the long-range planner.
“We really wanted to make some noise in the fifth year,” Caines said.
A Raptors win at traditional Suburban East Conference power Stillwater on Wednesday, April 23, did just that.
Five different members of the black-and-gold scored in a 6-3 win over the Ponies.
Killian Wilson led the Raptors offense with two goals on that cold and rainy night at the Ponies’ home turf. Wyatt Haas, Jack Dwyer, Mac Webb and Randy Wilson each scored a goal for the Raptors. Johnny Guiton assisted on one. Peyton Bixby had six saves in goal. The Raptors dominated on shots, 27-9. Defense controlled the game for the black-and gold.
“We didn’t give the opportunities,” Caines said.
With the marquee win, the Raptors moved to 4-0 and remain at the top of the SEC with fellow unbeaten White Bear Lake (2-0). East Ridge also beat Hastings 10-1 on Monday, April 21.
If the Raptors and Bears remain unblemished another week, they will play for sole possession of first place at East Ridge on Monday, May 5 at 7 p.m. Prior to that game, the Raptors will play at Cretin-Derham Hall on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
