East Ridge boys hockey: Raptors tie rival Royals, take down Forest Lake
East Ridge snapped a four-game skid and picked up its first win since Dec. 20 with a 2-2 overtime tie with Suburban East Conference and intra-district rival Woodbury Thursday and a 4-1 victory over SEC foe Forest Lake Saturday in Forest Lake.
The Raptors (6-7-2, 3-4-2 SEC) peppered the Royals (5-7-3, 0-5-3 SEC) with 44 shots on goal but only came away with two goals - both in the second period.
Ian Penvose and Jack Greeley scored in the second period to give East Ridge the lead after Woodbury grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal from Ford Pendleton.
After the Raptors took a 2-1 lead with Greeley's goal at 6 minutes, 18 seconds in the second period, Royals forward Dan Armstrong got the equalizer at 14:24.
East Ridge outshot Woodbury 15-7 in the third period but couldn't find the go-ahead goal in the final period.
The Raptors went 0-for-2 on the power play and gave up a power-play goal to Armstrong.
After tying Woodbury, the Raptors put together a solid effort to beat Forest Lake 4-1 Saturday in Forest Lake for their first win in five games.
Brady Hanson scored two goals for East Ridge and Nick Leach scored the game-winner at 14:09 of the second period.
Hanson and Jacob Behnken added goals in the third period to give the Raptors a comfortable lead.
John Suess scored for the Rangers (8-8, 3-6 SEC) at 10:33 of the first period but East Ridge rallied in the second period. The Raptors outshot Forest Lake 13-8 in the second period and got goals from Hanson at 13:39 and 30 seconds later Leach scored.
East Ridge took on St. Michael-Albertville Tuesday in Albertville after the Bulletin went to print. Next, the Raptors face off with rival Park Thursday at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.
