DNR grant discussions move ahead
Afton City Council discussed the contract for a grant opportunity with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources during a special meeting June 30.
The grant opportunity would be for flood mitigation purposes and would allow the city to bring its levee up to code.
The city would be responsible for paying $1.8 million toward the project and the DNR would provide matching funds.
During last Thursday's meeting, City Council discussed the details of the contract as well as possible funding options. One possible funding option would be to develop a special taxing district for affected properties.
Council members took no action at the meeting.
The City Council will discuss the grant opportunity, and possibly vote on the contract, at its July meeting.
