It's rally time for a Woodbury school.

Students and parents from Crosswinds Arts and Sciences School will gather at 2:30 p.m. today at the school in support of a Minnesota House bill that could allow the school's integration program to continue. The legislation, which was included in a larger House bill for state bonding projects, would turn over the building to either the state's Perpich Center for Arts Education or District 833, so long as the integration program continues.

A bonding bill has not passed either the Senate or the House. The legislative session must adjourn by midnight Monday.

Susan Larson, a parent of a Crosswinds student, said there is pressure on House leaders to pull the Crosswinds provision from the bonding bill.

"This is really unfortunate politics at the 11th hour," she said.

Calls to House Capital Investment Committee Chairwoman Alice Hausman, DFL-St. Paul, and Sen. Susan Kent, DFL-Woodbury, were not immediately returned.

After rallying at the school, the group will head to the Capitol, Larson said.

District 833 wants to acquire the Crosswinds building, but administrators say they would not continue the integration programming, instead using it for other educational purposes.
