Council approves purchase to expand Cree Park
One of Woodbury's parks will see an expansion next year.
The Woodbury City Council voted 5-0 at its Dec. 8 meeting to approve an open space acquisition of an 8.8-acre property adjacent to Cree Park on Century Avenue and west of Applewood Court.
The city purchased the property for $600,000. The parcel is mostly wooded and borders existing parkland and residential development, a city planning staff report stated. Access to the parcel is available via Century Avenue but the intent of the acquisition is the expansion of Cree Park.
The funds used to purchase the parcel come from an allotted sum the city received from the federal department of Housing and Urban Development. The approval represents the second time the city has been able to use a portion of its allocation of federal community development block grant dollars to invest in municipal neighborhood parks, the report stated.
