Comfort for a blue Christmas
The Stephens ministers of Peaceful Grove/Woodbury United Methodist Church invite anyone who has experienced the death of a loved one, a divorce, the end of a significant relationship, a job loss, or a frightening diagnosis to The Longest Night service on Sunday, Dec. 21, 6:30 p.m. in the chapel at Woodbury United Methodist Church, 7465 Steepleview Road.
According to information provided by organizers, Dec. 21 is the winter solstice, literally the longest night of the year. For those who have experienced significant loss, "bright lights and cheery music can be painful and even accentuate loneliness and despair."
Attendees can light a prayer candle, sit back in the chapel "and enjoy lovely music performed by talented young local musicians" at this "sensitive, comforting and inspirational service."
Reverend Ruth Ann Ramstad will present the service "You are not alone." Communion will be offered, and everyone will be given the opportunity to ring the steeple bell after the service.
Refreshments will follow, and clergy and Stephens ministers will be on hand to talk to and offer a prayer for you.
