Century Avenue project starting soon
With winter winding down, the next unofficial season -- road construction season -- is just around the bend.
Woodbury motorists will soon have to contend with the Century Avenue project, slated to begin sometime between April 13 and 20.
While one lane in each direction of Century Avenue and Valley Creek Road will be maintained for the majority of the construction time, significant traffic delays are expected. Alternate routes should be used whenever possible.
The following traffic impacts are expected starting in April and lasting roughly three months:
Century Avenue south of Valley Creek Road: Traffic will be shifted to the east to allow for construction of what will become the two southbound lanes. There will be no left- or right-turn lanes from Century Avenue to the cross streets or driveways.
Valley Creek Road, from Century Avenue to Weir Drive: Traffic will be shifted to the north to allow for construction of what will become the two eastbound lanes. There will be no left- or right-turn lanes from Valley Creek Road to the cross streets or driveways. Additionally, access to Parkwood Drive south of Valley Creek Road will be closed during this phase. Residents in the area can access their homes from the intersection of Century Avenue and Parkwood Drive. Access to Parkwood Drive north of Valley Creek Road will be maintained.
Intersection of Valley Creek Road and Century Avenue: There will be no turn lanes at the intersection of Century Avenue and Valley Creek Road. This is expected to further congest an already congested intersection. Alternate routes should be used when possible.
Notices are being delivered to the building managers of the multi-family units off of Parkwood Drive, south of Valley Creek Road, to inform them that access to Parkwood Drive from Valley Creek Road will be eliminated during this phase. Signs are also being erected on Parkwood Drive south of Valley Creek Road to alert motorists to this upcoming change.
