Candidate Viewpoint: Fred Hess
By Fred Hess
I am seeking a seat on the School Board because I believe in the work being done in our district and not because I am in opposition to the way the board or district has acted in the past. As a parent, I remain in awe of the work being done on a daily basis with my son by the teachers and staff who make his educational experience so wonderful. As a school board member, I will work to support our educators to enable them to have the best working conditions possible within the constraints of the current funding system.
I have resided in the eastern metropolitan area for the last 15 and in District 833 for nine. During that time I have witnessed phenomenal growth and change. Along with all the new homes and businesses it is exciting to see our communities become more diverse and multicultural with many faith traditions, income levels, younger families and retirees. As a board member I will strive to give voice to all those that reside and utilize the services in our district.
If asked what my biggest concern for the district would be I would have to answer “equitable access to the programs and services the district offers.” The abundant opportunities available should be within reach of all families. When asked what makes me qualified to be on the school board, my answer is simple: I like to find the truth by asking questions. What will drive my decisions is my perception on what I believe is in the best interest of students and the community I represent. As a public school system our programs and policies should be reflective of the society at large.
The voters in our district will have the opportunity to vote on three funding questions for the district. I encourage everyone to learn more about why approval of those measures is important to the vitality of our district. When making your choice to elect a school board member I ask that you give me the honor of your vote. Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org, or we can chat in a public forum at “Frederick E.
