A rainy, cold afternoon didn't stop spectators from coming out to watch the dome deflation event Monday.

Woodbury officials deflated the Bielenberg Sports Center "bubble," saying goodbye to one of the city's most popular landmarks that held many public and sporting events over the years.

Woodbury Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens flipped a switch that let air out of the bubble, while kids, adults and members of the community watched as the dome began coming down.

"The bubble has served the community well for over 17 years," Stephens said. "It holds numerous fond memories for many of us in the community."

Although the BSC dome held up to a number of snow storms, heavy rain and wind, it's passed its lifespan.

The city will build a permanent roof over a 90,000 square-foot field house, which is set to open next year.
