Waxing the City, a national franchise that recently merged with Anytime Fitness, opened its first Minnesota location at CityWalk in Woodbury.

"We decided to start spreading it right here," said manager Lisa O'Brien.

The salon, which has a no tip policy, offers full body waxing for men and women.

"We tell our clients the best tips they can give us is to tell their friends and family about us," O'Brien said. "That's been something that's really well received by the Woodbury community."

Waxing the City will have a VIP grand opening and ribbon cutting Tuesday, Jan. 8. The general public grand opening will be held Jan. 10-12.

Becker Furniture

Joining Waxing the City near Interstate 94 and Hudson Road is Becker Furniture World, which also opened during Christmas week.

After a little shuffling of the tenants at Woodbury Commons, Becker Furniture World now occupies 40,000 square feet at the center.

The store is expected to receive traffic from other furniture shoppers visiting Ashley Furniture, Slumberland, Schneiderman's and Home Furniture, all located off of Hudson Road.

Mattress Firm

A new Mattress Firm threw open its doors at the corner of Hudson Road and Woodbury Drive.

The company began building the new location, just down the road from another Mattress Firm store at Woodbury Lakes, a few months ago and was ready for business by Christmas.

McDonald's

Although not open just yet, the city's second McDonald's location has been preliminary platted for the Commerce Hill center near SuperTarget.

The announcement created some excitement among Woodbury residents of that part of the city, which continues to grow.

The opening is expected to be sometime between July and September, according to McDonald's officials.
