The awards keep piling up for Woodwinds Health Campus.

The latest came last week, when the hospital was named a "Best Hospital" in the Twin Cities by U.S. News Media and World Report.

The rankings selected 720 hospitals nationwide from a list of about 5,000, according to a press release.

Woodwinds was chosen not only as a top hospital but also was recognized for high performance in gynecology and orthopedics.

"Receiving the 'Best Hospital' award is confirmation that Woodwinds Health Campus is fulfilling its vision to be innovative, unique and a preferred resource for health in the community," hospital CEO Tom Schmitt said through a spokesperson.

The rankings, which have been published by U.S. News & World Report for the past 22 years, are aimed at guiding patients toward high levels of care, according to a release.

"These are referral centers where other hospitals send their sickest patients," said Avery Comarow, U.S. News health rankings editor. "Hospitals like these are ones you or those close to you should consider when the stakes are high."

The rankings covered 94 metropolitan areas in the nation. Woodwinds will join other hospitals published in the "U.S. News Best Hospitals" guidebook, due out at the end of the month.

The award adds to a growing list of distinctions given to Woodwinds. Within the past few years, Woodwinds has been awarded for its workplace, it's been named a top community hospital and has been recognized as being among the nation's most beautiful hospitals.
