Alpine skiing: Raptors boys racers lead way at Wild Mountain meet
Woodbury Minnesota 8420 City Centre Drive 55125

The Raptors' strong showing on the slalom course continued last week at Wild Mountain Ski Area.

This time, it was the East Ridge boys who proved most successful on the hill: they took second in the 10-team Jan. 24 meet, while the Raptors girls finished fifth. In both instances, the Raptors finished one place ahead of their Woodbury counterparts.

Park racers continue to show steady improvement. The Wolfpack girls finished eighth at Wild Mountain, while the boys finished ninth.

Topping all Park-Woodbury-East Ridge (PWER) alpine skiers was junior Elizabeth Koprucki, whose first-place overall finish was her third of the season in Suburban East Conference competition.

Fellow Raptor Jessie Lepel took seventh overall in the meet, while Bethany Wozniak finished in 17th place overall at the meet. East Ridge junior Morgan Maxwell finished fourth on the team after a rough first run, but stood strong on her second run.

Consistency was the name of the game for the East Ridge boys. Though only one Raptor - standout eighth-grader Jack Midlien - finished in the top 10, East Ridge placed nine racers in the top 50 of the 88-skier field.

Other top racers for East Ridge were Oliver Kennedy (15th), Holton Sailer (21st), Evan Bilbrey (28th), Mike Youngstrom (32nd) and Colton Simon (37th).

The Woodbury boys took third at the race and were led by Matt Stefely, who finished seventh overall. The Royals' contingent was rounded out by Davis Johnson (16th), Cole Brusehoff (19th) and Dan Knutson (39th).

Park's top boys racers were Dan Rogers and Lane Crose, who finished 17th and 40th overall, respectively.

The Woodbury girls skiers were led by Sarah Niederhofer, who took 14th at the race in the 82-racer field. The Royals' Brittany Roth finished 20th overall and was followed on the team by Melanie Loudas, who claimed 31st place. Sydney Johnson and Alisa Voegler rounded out Woodbury's top racers.

Park's Andrea Kuzj was denied a top-10 finish by just .04 - good enough for 11th place overall. Kaitlyn Cornwell (25th) and Stephanie Iverson (36th) were among Park's top racers at the meet.

PWER skiers wrapped up SEC competition Tuesday in a Jan. 31 meet at Wild Mountain that was held after the Bulletin went to press.

The teams head Feb. 8 to Wild Mountain for the Section 4AA competition.
