Afton City Council briefs from Oct. 15
House removal approved
Afton City Council approved the demolition of a city-owned property during its Oct. 15 meeting.
The house, located on St. Croix Trail South, needs to be removed as part of the city’s downtown flood hazard mitigation project.
The demolition of the house will cost $1,250.
City Council also approved the relocation of a well, sitting on the property, to another location.
Afton City Council approved an application fee refund during its Oct. 15 meeting.
Afton resident Jeff Turcotte had applied for a variance to construct an accessory building in front of his house.
However, since variances are only granted when a hardship can be shown, Turcotte opted to withdraw his application.
Since Turcotte withdrew his application, Council Member Peg Nolz said it’s only fair to refund $250 application fee.
However, City Council is only refunding $200 of the original $250 fee since minimal staff time had been put in.
Musesum repairs approved
Afton City Council approved $6,975 in repairs for the Afton Historical Museum.
The repairs, needed as a result of storm damage in July, will cost $6,975 and are fully reimbursed to the city through its insurance.
The museum received additional funding for repairs in August in the amount of $12,000.
