SCHOOL DISTRICT 833 — Park High School junior Mason Kimbell has been chosen to sing with the Minnesota All-State Mixed Choir.

Kimbell will sing baritone in the choir during their 2018-19 season, which includes a weeklong All-State camp in August at Saint Olaf College. Next February, he will perform with the choir at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis.

Each year, hundreds of students across Minnesota audition for the all-state program. It was created in 1944 by the Minnesota Music Educators Association to provide an immersive musical experience for the best student singers and musicians. Categories include choral, orchestral and band.

Those who make the cut attend a week-long summer camp, during which they rehearse in their respective ensembles. They also receive feedback and private instruction from professional vocalists or instrumentalists. Students also attend seminars on topics from music careers to college admissions and auditions and music in adult life.

Kimbell's audition included a classical solo and a cappella Italian aria. He sings with Park High School choirs under the direction of Benjamin O'Connor.

Kimbell also performed in Park's spring musical "James and the Giant Peach" last week.

He joins 20 students from East Ridge and Woodbury high schools who have been accepted to All-State music ensembles for the 2018-19 season.
