Veterans memorial: Contribute to the cause
Through the efforts of the Woodbury Lions, Woodbury American Legion Post No. 501 and Woodbury Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9024, the Woodbury Lions Veterans Memorial honors military heroes with a local connection via engraved stones purchased by residents and businesspeople.
Granite pavers may memorialize any U.S. veteran who provided honorable military service. Among the 436 people named on stones at the memorial are veterans who served in the American Revolution, the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan, said Bruce Nettleton, a member of the the Lions and the Legion.
There is room for 2,600 pavers, Nettleton said. The goal is to sell 50 a year.
Eight-inch-by-16-inch stones cost $300.
Memorial benches ($1,500), planters ($2,500), flag pole bases ($5,000), and other parts of the veterans memorial ($3,500) are available for sponsorship, as well.
The veterans memorial is located near Woodbury City Hall, 8301 Valley Creek Road.
Paver order forms are available at woodburylionsvetmem.org. For more information, contact the Lions at firstname.lastname@example.org or Nettleton at 651-325-5643.
