Staffing agency named Woodbury Chamber's Business of the Year

Express Employment Professionals, located on Woodbury Crossing, was named the 2012 Woodbury Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year.

A business that aims to grow jobs in the community will be honored this month by the Woodbury Chamber of Commerce.

Express Employment Professionals was named the Chamber's 2012 Business of the Year.

Kimberly Croker, co-owner of Express Employment Professionals, said the Business of the Year award came as a surprise.

"I feel just honored by this recognition and consider it a privilege," she said.

Heidi Bardwell, the Chamber's 2013 chairwoman, said Express Employment has been a loyal Chamber member for years.

"They are truly committed to the business community in Woodbury and they are active in sponsoring events with the chamber and community as well as volunteering their time to be a part of community events," Bardwell said.

The business received nominations from several of its clients, including one that praised Express Employment for its ability to give workers opportunity "to earn a living and possibly find a career."

"There is something special about Express that distinguishes them from other companies - they genuinely care about our success and their people," the nomination letter states.

Express Employment is a full-service employment franchise that staffs workers in Woodbury and around the east metro. Croker said the company recruits employees for positions in the administrative, commercial and professional job sectors.

The business, which is located on Woodbury Crossing, opened in 2001 and is one of 605 Express Employment Professionals franchises in the world.

Croker said she and her business partners purchased the Woodbury location "because it was an ideal place to grow staffing here and to put people to work."

Express Employment's notable hires include the chamber's new executive director, Barbara Warren, and Warren's predecessor, Travis Martinson.

"In hiring our new Chamber executive director, Kim was very thorough, professional, knowledgeable and on top of her game," said 2012 Chamber Chairwoman Liz Fleischhacker. "She made the entire process easy for us - we just had to show up. I'm not sure what we would have done without her."

Croker called the award a meaningful one.

"It reinforces the critical role we play in the community," she said. "It helps to highlight what we're trying to do in Woodbury - in achieving job growth."

Express Employment Professionals, along with the educator and citizen of the year, will be honored during the Woodbury Chamber of Commerce Awards Gala on Jan. 25 at the Prom Center in Oakdale.
