Woodbury getting 'Wild'

The former Woodbury TGI Friday's will not sit vacant for long.

The site is currently under construction and remodeling that will fit the look and feel of a western saloon.

The restaurant, Wild Bill's, is a Minnesota-based company with three other locations in the state that began opening in 2009.

Owner Mike Tupa said the space will have a "western saloon atmosphere" with a heavy concentration on fresh food and a peanut bar.

The Radio Drive location will have 48 televisions all in HD, he added.

"We basically can show any game at any time in the U.S.," Tupa said.

Wild Bill's Saloon is known for its freshly prepared chicken tenders, fresh burgers, sandwiches and salads. The restaurant will be open for lunch, happy hour and family-friendly dinners, Tupa said.

The Stillwater resident said he and his family have always been a fan of Woodbury and the prominent Radio Drive location was more motivation to acquire the space.

"It's far enough away from our other sites that we thought won't compete," he said of the Apple Valley, Blaine and Maple Grove locations.

Each of the other Wild Bill's restaurants has a full outdoor patio with a fireplace and liquor licenses.

Tupa said he intends to make a proposal to City Council to bring the same concept to Woodbury.

"It's a great place in the summer to grab a bite after work and relax with friends and family," he said.

Although the restaurant has a western bar atmosphere, Tupa said it will not deviate from being kid-friendly.

Children will be allowed to participate in the crack-and-throw tradition when it comes to peanut shells.

"I have kids of my own so I can appreciate just allowing them to be kids," he said.

The restaurant's specialties include slow roasted ribs, 15 homemade wing sauces, flat bread and pizza and a full children's menu.

Wild Bill's will be open until 2 a.m. daily.
