Country Mile organizers tap community for logo

Think you've got art chops? If so, the Woodbury Chamber of Commerce wants to hear from you.

In recognition of the 30th running of the chamber's Country Mile race, the organization is fielding entries for the race's T-shirt logo.

Previously gleaned from Woodbury High School students, the chamber decided to open up this year's artistic submissions to anyone in the community.

Chamber membership staff representative Kim Snyder said she expects strong attendance for this year's race, set for Aug. 28.

"It's got a lot of energy," she said of the race, which includes a half-marathon, a 5K and fun runs for kids. "It's real family friendly, and it's nice to run in your backyard."

The race earned its Country Mile moniker back when Woodbury's setting was more rural "and it just kind of stuck," Snyder said.

She said the race typically draws about 400 runners - many of whom have been attracted to its setting. The Country Mile is primarily run across the city's trail system, which she called "very picturesque."

"I think it's a little more unique because it's run on the trails system," Snyder said.

The race is orchestrated in collaboration with the chamber and the city, which Snyder said has proved a "collaborative effort."

Race entries go toward funding chamber operations, she said.

"It's something that we feel is essential for our operations as well as essential to the community," Snyder said.

Entries for the logo are currently being taken until Feb. 8. The logo will be used on Country Mile race T-shirts and in marketing materials.
