Globe University awards military scholarships

Globe University/ Minnesota School of Business (GU/MSB), a 130-year-old career-focused institution, has announced it has awarded more than 200 military scholarships to returning veterans within the last six months through its Military Advantage Scholarship program. The scholarship awards a 10-percent discount off quarterly tuition and books for military personnel, their spouse and dependents.

Globe University/ Minnesota School of Business has increased its military outreach since adding full-time military liaison, Mike Blumberg, to its staff in August.

That same month, GU/MSB achieved military-friendly status by becoming a member of the Service members Opportunity Colleges. In December, the school reached military spouse-friendly status as part of an initiative of the Department of Defense's Office of Military Community and Family Policy that assists military spouses in pursuing their educational interests.

Additionally, GU/MSB established the Military Service Scholarship for military personnel who have been severely injured during service in Iraq or Afghanistan and are participants in the Department of Defense Severely Injured Joint Operations Center.

The scholarship aims to help ease the transition back to civilian life for injured service members and their family members, who are also eligible for the tuition-only scholarship. Awards are based on the type of degree program in which applicants enroll: diploma program applicants receive $1,000, associate degree applicants receive $2,500, and bachelor's degree applicants receive $5,000.

Offering scholarships to military personnel and their family members is central to GU/MSB's mission to provide education that enables graduates to reach their career and life goals.

Globe University/ Minnesota School of Business was established in 1877 and has provided career-focused education ever since to help prepare graduates for the working world. Today, GU/MSB awards diplomas, and associate, bachelor's and master's degrees in more than 30 programs within the information technology, business, health science, multimedia/design and legal science fields.
