Plans to keep 'Grill and Bar' open fall short

The former Champps Americana in Woodbury shuttered its doors after three months of operating as “Grill and Bar.”

Owner Wayne Belisle confirmed the restaurant closed about three weeks ago but declined to explain reasons for shutting down.

Belisle had plans to keep the doors open until figuring out a new concept when a federal bankruptcy order forced all Champps franchisees to remove all names and food proprietary to the company in June.

Business at the restaurant slowly declined when the Champps name faded until it closed down for good last month. A large banner that says “Still Open” remains hung outside of the building.

The restaurant was built 18 years ago at a now prominent location visible from Radio Drive near the Interstate 94 ramp.
